Identification Milestones

Initial diagnostic administration in English language arts and mathematics (all students K-8)
Team meeting with guardians to develop Individual Learning Plans for the school year (students eligible for tier 3 programming)October
Cycle I pull-out instruction (students eligible for tier 3 programming)

Second diagnostic administrations in English language arts and mathematics (students eligible for tier 3 programming)
Review of student progress data to identify students eligible for cycle II of tier 3 programming (all students K-8)
Team meeting with guardians to develop and implement Individual Learning Plans (students eligible for tier 3 programming)February
Cycle II pull-out instruction begins (students eligible for tier 3 programming)

Third diagnostic administrations in English language arts and mathematics (students eligible for tier 3 programming)

Review of student progress data to identify students eligible for cycle I of tier 3 programming following school year (all students K-8)Identification Criteria for Tier 3
Pupils will be considered for participation in the tier 3 gifted and talented programs when compared to their peers within the district. A pupil will be considered for participation in the program for gifted and talented pupils based on the district progress indicators outlined below:
- Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Stanine score of 9;
- Above grade level placement in district reading and/or math diagnostic assessment;
- Writing sample;
- Creativity scale
Identification Criteria for Tier 2
Pupils will be considered for participation in the tier 2 gifted and talented programs when compared to their peers within the district. A pupil will be considered for participation in the tier 2 programs for gifted and talented pupils who:
- Is identified as needing differentiation and modification to the regular curriculum after the content area teacher reviews the pupil’s classroom data and academic performance
- Is identified as needing specific challenges within the regular classroom based on the pupil’s academic performance and/or content area teacher’s observation
Identification Criteria for Tier 1
All pupils will receive opportunity to receive differentiated instruction within the regular classroom as part of the tier 1 gifted and talented programs.
