Avon Elementary School
    B.E.A.C.H. Program

    Building Excellence And Creating Habits

The BEACH Program is an after-school, peer-guided routine designed to reinforce learning, collaboration, and resilience strategies and habits. The experience is a perfect match for students who could use additional time, support, and guidance in developing and following through with Executive Functioning.
The Avon School BEACH program is supervised by an Avon School Staff Member Advisor who recruits community volunteer mentors and guides group and individual experiences with targeted whole group and student-specific goals.
The program is focused on supporting students in grades five through eight and is offered: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, after school from 3:00pm-4:00pm.

The goal of the BEACH Program is to utilize the talents and service of members from within our extended learning community by promoting independent and active learning while having a direct and positive effect on academic achievement. Volunteer mentors strive to empower students by engaging them with strategies to reach their full academic potential.
Participants will develop a relaxed attitude toward school, homework, and learning by focusing on and reinforcing the following goals, strategies, and habits of mind:
    • establish systems of organizational habits/routines
    • create successful home and school learning habitats
    • work productively with others
    • exercise personal responsibility
    • establish and meet high standards and goals
    • develop targeted life skills
    • increase academic performance
    • improve study habits
    • master executive functioning
