21st Century Life and Careers
The Avon School District's 21st Century Life and Careers curriculum follows the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and shares a partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) to provide students with "the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices" (JA, 2013). Learning to support college and career readiness is also supported through the P21 Framework for 21st Century Learning through the district's systems-based approach to learning. Students K-8 will experience a series of lessons within a unit of study that focuses on the areas of community infrastructure, work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy in order to demonstrate the skills and opportunities relevant to today's economy and worldwide market. Using these acquired skills and knowledge, the 21st Century Life and Careers curriculum aspires to have students prepared to succeed in a global economy.
