According to New Jersey laws, public school districts must provide educational services for all students between the ages of 3 and 21 who have been identified as having physical, sensory, emotional, communication, cognitive or social handicaps. This service is available to all Avon residents as well as any children of homeless or migrant worker families.
Possible signs that your child may have a disability include:
- difficulty seeing people or objects
- trouble hearing voices or other sounds
- being unusually quiet
- not talking in short sentences by age 4
- throwing severe temper tantrums frequently
- inability to get along with others
- being frustrated by simple tasks
- difficulty manipulating small objects
- difficulty pronouncing words correctly
- particular, severe health problems that will affect academic progress
