Character EducationAvon School believes that character development and social-emotional learning are key to the growth of the whole child. Character education programming is implemented K-8 utilizing evidence-based strategies and approaches to teaching social-emotional learning targets, such as Responsive Classroom, Positive Behavioral Supports, and Social Thinking. Students in grades K-8 participate in daily morning meetings led by instructional staff during their Homeroom. This time allows for the development of each grade-level community, the establishment of positive expectations for behavior and learning, and opportunities for targeted instruction based on the needs of each cohort. Positive behavior supports are implemented throughout the school day through the identification of expected behaviors and actions of students that promote a healthy environment for learning and success.
