Our Avon Elementary community came together for a Technology and Cyber Security Seminar sponsored by the Avon Education Foundation!
Our students took the spotlight, sharing helpful tips and tricks for using cell phones and navigating everyday technology. Detective Dave Barry of the Avon Police Department engaged both students and guests in an important conversation about staying safe online, protecting personal information, recognizing scams and red flags, and making smart choices when using devices, email, text messages, and online accounts.
It was wonderful to see our students sharing their knowledge, building their public speaking skills, and learning alongside members of our community.

Happy Halloween from the Avon Tigers!
A special thank you to the Avon Police Department for visiting our students and sharing important Halloween safety tips! From trick-or-treating safely to staying aware of their surroundings, our students learned how to make smart choices while enjoying all the Halloween fun.

Our kindergarten students have been learning about pushes and pulls in science. As part of their learning, they took on a fun challenge: protecting a pretend city from a rolling boulder! 🪨
Working together, students explored how they could change the direction of the boulder to keep their city safe. Along the way, they practiced problem-solving, collaboration, and applying what they learned in a hands-on way.
Our youngest Avon Tigers are learning to think like scientists! 💙💛

🦆Our first graders are partnering with Quiver Farms to hatch ducklings, bringing science to life in a truly meaningful way. From observing development and learning about life cycles to witnessing new life firsthand, students are building their understanding of the natural world while developing a sense of responsibility, care, and empathy for living things.
These are the experiences that make learning memorable: asking questions, making observations, discovering something new, and learning to care for the world around us.

Our students are using hands-on manipulatives and visual models to explore division, represent mathematical relationships, and make sense of how numbers work together. Our Kindergarten, First and Second grade students took a trip to the firehouse for some hands-on learning about fire safety! 🧑🚒 From exploring the fire trucks to learning about the important work firefighters do to keep our community safe, our youngest Tigers had an exciting opportunity to connect classroom learning with the real world! A big THANK YOU to our local firefighters for welcoming our students and helping them understand the importance of fire safety. ❤️ 🐯 Small School, Big Impact!
Great teaching starts with great learning - Our AES teachers stepped into the role of learners as we explored the Eight Standards for Mathematical Practices and how these essential skills extend far beyond the math classroom!
From problem-solving and critical thinking to perseverance, precision, and making connections, these practices are skills that help students become stronger thinkers and learners in EVERY subject area.
Our focus? Being intentional about creating opportunities for students to think deeply, explain their reasoning, tackle challenges, and embrace productive struggle.
At AES, professional learning is about more than improving instruction in one subject. It’s about strengthening teaching and learning across our entire school
School will be closed for students October 12th and 13th while our staff will be collaborating, learning, sharing ideas, and growing together through professional development — all with one goal in mind: creating the very best learning experiences for our students. 💙💛

Our middle school ELA students recently partnered with our kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students for a special Book Buddy experience! Students in grades 6–8 selected picture books and prepared interactive read-alouds, planning thoughtful places to pause, ask questions, make predictions, and invite their younger buddies into the story. It was a great opportunity for our older students to practice communication and leadership while giving our youngest Tigers the chance to learn from and be inspired by their “big kid” readers. This is one of the things that makes a small school so special: our students know one another, learn from one another, and have opportunities to lead at every age. 🐯📖 Thank you to Mrs. Silvestri and her ELA students for sharing their love of reading!

Today we celebrate two of the very best! 💙💛 Mr. Smith and Ms. Lupe are hardworking, dependable, caring, and always willing to lend a hand. They do so much behind the scenes each and every day to keep our school looking its best and running smoothly and they do it all with pride and a smile. We are so lucky to have them as part of our school family! Happy School Custodian Appreciation Day to two people who truly make a difference at AES! 🐯💙💛
Mr. Trapani’s ELA class just finished reading a story called When A Category 5 Hurricane Came To Town. The class learned all about hurricanes including facts , safety precautions , and how to provide relief as a community after a hurricane. Each student made their own poster titled All About Hurricanes. The class is now ready to jump into action to help the community when in need.
Our fourth graders are digging into the science behind volcanoes. They collected data about the volcanoes' last eruption, location, current status, physical features, and additional interesting facts.
But the learning doesn’t stop with the research. Students are analyzing their data, identifying important information, and deciding how to communicate what they’ve learned. Next up, they’ll put it all together in a slideshow and present their findings to their classmates.

🔬 Science comes into focus! Our 7th graders created their first ever wet mount slides and put their microscope skills to work during a hands-on lab. From carefully preparing their specimens to adjusting the microscope and making observations, students practiced the precision, patience, and curiosity that real scientific investigation requires. 🧪🔬

After reading The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds, our third graders were inspired to begin collecting special words of their own! Students are keeping an eye and an ear out for interesting, beautiful, and powerful words they discover in books, read-alouds, classroom conversations, and throughout their day.
This intentional vocabulary instruction helps students build word knowledge, strengthen their reading and writing, and develop a genuine curiosity about language. 💙
We believe that every word gives students another way to think, communicate, and make meaning. 🐯📖✨
