Cyber security

Avon Elementary School welcomed students, families, and community members on Wednesday, October 29, for an informative seminar on technology and cyber security. Sponsored by the Avon Education Foundation, the afternoon program brought together student presenters and local law enforcement to share practical ways to use technology safely and responsibly.

Avon students took the lead in sharing a variety of tips and tricks for using cell phones and navigating everyday technology. Their presentations offered guests helpful ideas and practical information about making the most of their devices.

Detective Dave Barry of the Avon Police Department provided valuable guidance to both students and guests about staying safe online. His presentation focused on protecting personal information, recognizing common scams and online red flags, and understanding simple security settings that can help keep devices and accounts protected. Participants also learned practical tips for staying safe when using devices, email, text messages, and online accounts.

The seminar was a wonderful opportunity for students and adults to learn together about the importance of digital awareness and responsible technology use. It also highlighted the value of bringing our school and local community together to address topics that impact us all.

Avon Elementary School extends its appreciation to Detective Dave Barry and the Avon Police Department for sharing their expertise, our student presenters for sharing their knowledge. A special thank-you goes to the Avon Education Foundation for sponsoring this valuable community learning opportunity.
