The halls of Avon Elementary School are once again filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement as students and staff returned for the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Teachers spent the opening days helping students build strong classroom communities, establish routines, and develop the habits that will set the foundation for a successful year. From the youngest learners entering the building for the first time to eighth graders beginning their final year at AES, there was a shared sense of excitement about the year ahead.

Students also returned to several expanded academic opportunities. Avon continues to strengthen its mathematics program, including increased instructional time in Grades 3–5 and expanded middle school math programming. Additional intervention and enrichment opportunities as well as new data tools will help teachers guide instruction to be responsive to individual student needs.

Learning at Avon extends well beyond the traditional classroom. Students benefit from programs in art, music, physical education, technology, STEM, and hands-on learning experiences. This year, students will also have opportunities to participate in Makerspace Recess and an expanded after-school band program.

As a small school, Avon Elementary is able to combine the close relationships of a tight-knit school community with the opportunities of a comprehensive educational program. Partnerships, shared services, community organizations, grants, and the continued support of the Avon Home and School and the Avon Education Foundation help the district provide students with experiences and resources that extend far beyond what might be expected from a school of our size.

Our size is one of our greatest strengths. We are able to truly know our students while still providing them with a rich, well-rounded educational experience. That happens because of an incredible staff and a community that believes deeply in its school and its children.

As the new year gets underway, Avon Elementary remains focused on academic growth, meaningful relationships, student engagement, and creating opportunities for every child to discover their strengths.

At AES, it is a small school with a big impact and the 2026–2027 school year is off to a bright beginning.
