School Safety & Threat Reporting

School Threat Assessment

N.J.S.A. 18A:17-43.4, requires the establishment of threat assessment teams in public, charter, and renaissance school projects. The purpose of a threat assessment team is to provide school teachers, administrators, and other staff with assistance in identifying students with behaviors of concern, assessing those students’ risk for engaging in violence or other harmful activities, and delivering intervention strategies to manage the risk of harm for students who pose a potential safety risk. The threat assessment teams’ purpose is also to prevent targeted violence in the school and to ensure a safe and secure school environment that enhances the learning experience for all members of the school community.

The Avon Board of Education calls on all members of the school community to assist in the endeavor of maintaining orderly operations and tasked the administration to develop the following form to allow for the anonymous reporting of potential threats to the school or district.

To report concerns of harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying, please complete the appropriate form found on our HIB page.

To report concerns of a potential threat of school violence (verbal or non-verbal), behaviors involving weapons, or menacing actions, see below.

If there is no concern for anonymity, we encourage the report of any concerns to the building principal or any administrator as soon as possible.
